International Characters

I have made this list for my own use, but enjoy it if you find it useful.  Mostly, I just need to know these characters for use on a PC and for web development.  I have included the following tables below.  I am not a Mac guru and seldom use one, so if you notice an error in the Macintosh Shortcut Keys table, or any other table, please write me.

Typing International Characters on a PC (PC Keyboard Shortcut Codes):

To produce the characters in this table on a PC, press and hold the ALT key and tap in the numeric code on the numeric keypad, then release the ALT key.  The numeric keypad is on the right side of most full-sized computer keyboards (i.e., NOT on the number keys at the top the keyboard above the letters).  NOTE:  If the numeric code starts with a zero, you MUST type the zero first to get the right character.

Microsoft Word International Character Shortcut Keys:

The following are common keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Word.  I have included both PC and Mac keystrokes, where known.  The words in parentheses () in the table are a description of the preceding character, so do NOT type the parentheses or their contents as part of the keyboard shortcut.

Macintosh International Character Shortcut Keys:

These keystrokes allow you to enter certain special characters for Western languages from an English (US) keyboard. These characters will work in most popular word processors, and in many other programs. To create these characters, hold down the Option key and any other key listed. Then release those keys and press the key(s) listed after the plus sign.  I am not a Mac guru or anything, so if you notice any errors in the table below, please write me.  Thanks.
